Code of Conduct

DC Shadow Lobby Event Code of Conduct

All attendees, observers, and game masters at our events are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

This code of conduct is intended to supplement and not to contradict any stated code of conduct published on behalf of the host event which our events are a part of.

Need Help?

The contact information for your GM should be included in the introductory material you received when registering for your event. Additionally, you may contact Eric Kolb at on behalf of DC Shadow Lobby for any additional assistance required. DC Shadow Lobby will act of its own accord to protect all attendees, observers, and GMs as well as cooperate with the staff of the host event to resolve any issues swiftly and discretely.

The Quick Version

Our events are dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. The fictional world in which the events we promote take place is often a grim and gritty one where racism, sexism, and exploitation is as much problem as in our own world, if not more. DC Shadow Lobby is committed to balancing inclusion of these themes as a part of the fictional universe with responsible treatment of those themes. Regardless of the fictional backdrop, directing sexual language and imagery towards attendees is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops, parties, Twitter and other online media.

Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from DC Shadow Lobby events without a refund at the discretion of the GMs and reported to the organizers of the hosting event or conference.

The Less Quick Version

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Sponsors and game masters are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors and game masters should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Game masters (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of DC Shadow Lobby immediately. The GM of your event will be a DC Shadow Lobby member. If you wish to to report harassment on behalf of a DC Shadow Lobby member, please contact the group organizer ( immediately. DC Shadow Lobby events are always subject to the code of conduct published by the host conference as well.

DC Shadow Lobby will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at DC Shadow Lobby events.
